Galaxy Australia Events and Workshops

As with the first edition of Smörgåsbord, it will be a global 5-day Galaxy Training event showcasing a wide variety of Galaxy Training Network tutorials. This will be an online event, spanning all time zones. All training sessions are pre-recorded, so you can work through them at your own pace, and manage your own time. A large community of GTN trainers will be available via online support to answer all your questions.

GCC2021 will be virtual, global and affordable.

The Australian BioCommons and Queensland Cyber Infrastructure Foundation (QCIF), in association with a network of facilitators from the national Bioinformatics Training Cooperative and Galaxy Australia will be running a series of half day Galaxy Training Workshops on Variant Calling in May 2021. The workshops will be held online for Australian researchers. The deadline for signup applications is 5pm AEST, 12th May 2021. Details on selection are below.

An introduction to RNA-seq analysis using the Galaxy Australia web platform. Presented by Australian Biocommons, Galaxy Australia and Melbourne Bioinformatics.

The Australian BioCommons, Melbourne Bioinformatics and QCIF, in association with Galaxy Australia will be running a series of half day Galaxy Training Workshops in November 2020. The workshops will be held online for Australian researchers.

Data analysis without the need for programming experience

This hands-on workshop introduces the concepts of RNA-Seq analysis, from data preparation through to statistical testing for differential gene expression, along with more advanced topics such as identification of novel transcription features and pathway and functional enrichment analysis.

This hands-on practical workshop is an introduction to next generation sequencing technologies and how they work, providers, common bioinformatics workflows, standardised file types, quality control and an introduction to Galaxy Australia. No prior experience of using Galaxy is required.

This workshop will cover the concepts of 16S bacterial metagenomics analysis. You will learn about pre-processing and quality -filtering of your data, assembly of reads into Operational Taxonomic Units (OTUs), and visualisation and export of data for further analysis.

BCC2020 is packed full of joint & parallel sessions, keynotes, poster & demo sessions, birds-of-a-feather, and social events. The meeting encompasses a week of activities, including two optional pre-conference training days, a three-day main meeting, and four post-meeting collaboration days. You can choose some or all of it to attend.

CSIRO along with the Queensland Facility for Advanced Bioinformatics (QFAB) and Melbourne Bioinformatics will be conducting a workshop on Galaxy for Scientists – Advanced Hands-on Tutorials as part of the Collaborative Conference on Computational and Data Intensive Science 2020 (C3DIS 2020) on March the 18th 2020 from 9:30am until 12:30pm.

The Australian Biocommons is presenting a webinar on the 3rd of February from 12 - 1pm AEDT (11am - 12pm AEST) on data visualisation in bioinformatics. The webinar will be presented by Martin Krzywinski from Canada’s Michael Smith Genome Sciences Center. Martin will provide a highlights tour of data visualisation in bioinformatics.

The Australian Biocommons is presenting a webinar on the 20th of January from 1 - 2pm AEDT (12 - 1pm AEST) for bioinformatics developers on a tool called Bionitio that automates the process of starting a new bioinformatics software project.

The Queensland Facility for Advanced Bioinformatics (QFAB) in association with Galaxy Australia are running 5 x 1 day long workshops on various analysis techniques using Galaxy Australia. These workshops will be run at the Translational Research Institute in Woolloongabba, Brisbane, Queensland.

We are pleased to announce that GCC2019 will be held in Freiburg, Germany, 1-6 July. Like previous Galaxy Community Conferences, GCC2019 will feature invited keynotes, accepted talks, posters, and demos, birds-of-a-feather gatherings, multiple days of collaborative work, and plenty of opportunities to network with your fellow data-intensive researchers and practitioners. If you are working in data-intensive life science, there is no better place to be.

Each topic is supported by different tutorials developed and maintained by the community via a GitHub repository: https://github.com/galaxyproject/training-material.

Galaxy Admin Training will be offered January 28 through February 1 at Penn State University, where the Galaxy Project got started over ten years ago. The workshop is split into a 2 day introductory session and a 3 day advanced topics session. Participants can register for one or both sessions.
